DIY Foam Stamps

Have you ever wondered how to make your own foam stamps? Are you looking for a way to liven up your nursery, kids bedroom, or any room in your home? Homemade foam stamps are simple and inexpensive solution for dressing up your walls. In this example, I made a ric-rac stamp. There are so many other possibilities; create stars, flowers, a chevron stripe or anything you can imagine.

First, you will need to get a sheet of foam from your craft store. I folded mine in half because I wanted to create symmetrical shape.

Next, I used a pencil to draw the shape I wanted. (Use a pencil first so you can erase until you get just the shape you want.) Then trace your shape with a marker.

With your foam still folded, carefully cut your shape.

Use some of your extra foam to create little "handles" for your foam stamp. Tape on these handles. This will make stamping easier.

Use a small paint brush or foam brush to cover the front side of the stamp with acrylic paint.

Gently press your stamp against the wall.

Repaint your stamp and continue the pattern on your wall. A laser level will be helpful if you are creating a pattern all the way across the wall.

If you are using the stamp on a textured wall, you will need to go back in with a small brush and touch up the paint when you are done.

We love the results what do you think? Give this technique a try and share pictures of your results with us on Facebook!

Pantone's Color of the Year for 2014 - Radiant Orchid

Yesterday color experts at Pantone declared Radiant Orchid as the color of the year for 2014. Radiant Orchid is a harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones. This color choice does not come as a surprise as  lately we are seeing shades of purple popping up everywhere in interior design. According to Pantone, this lovely color is perfectly paired with olive or hunter greens and also shades of turquoise, one of our customer's favorite colors for 2013. We think it will work beautifully paired with gray, also one of the hottest colors in modern design.

Radiant Orchid

We love this color! What a great way to introduce a pop of enchanting color into a room. How can you bring a bit of Radiant Orchid into your home? We have a few ideas for you.

  • Grab a throw pillow. One of the quickest and most inexpensive ways to bring a pop of a new color into a room is by adding a throw pillow to a neutral couch or chair.
  • Paint an accent wall. Also an inexpensive option to add some color to your home. Choose one wall and paint it in this lovely color. If you only paint one wall, it will be simple to change when your are ready for a new color.
  • Update your bedding. Choose new bedding for your bedroom or nursery in a lovely shade of purple. New bedding can give a fresh look to your room.
